Your Story Matters: Write for This Site
This site was born from a simple, stubborn idea: a child should not have to wait fifteen years โ or forty-five โ to find out what is happening to them. The articles here explain the science: why effort alone never worked, why criticism cuts so deep, what it is like when the explanation finally arrives. But science only explains. What makes a reader at two in the morning stop and whisper “this is me” โ that has always been someone else’s story. So we are opening this site to yours.
Whose story we are looking for
- Adults diagnosed late โ what the years without the name cost you, and what changed when it arrived.
- Parents โ the road to your child’s diagnosis, the day you told them, the mistakes you would undo, the things that worked.
- People who discovered themselves in their child’s evaluation โ the accidental second diagnosis.
- Partners, siblings, grandparents, teachers โ the view from one seat away.
- Teens and young adults who want the kids behind them to have it easier than they did.
You do not need to be a writer. The stories that help most are not polished โ they are true. A few honest paragraphs about one moment (the diagnosis, the worst school year, the conversation that changed things) beat ten pages of biography.
The ground rules
- Your privacy is yours. Publish under your name, initials, or a pseudonym โ your choice, stated up front. We will never publish contact details.
- Other people’s privacy too. Change or omit names of children, exes, teachers and doctors. The story is yours; their identities are not.
- True, not medical. Tell what happened to you. We do not publish treatment advice or medication recommendations โ that conversation belongs to doctors.
- All three languages welcome. Spanish, English, or French โ we publish in all three. Write in your own language; with your permission we will translate your story and publish it so it reaches readers in the others too.
- Light editing, your approval. We may trim for length and clarity; nothing is published until you have seen the final version and said yes.
How to send it
Leave a comment below. Comments on this page do not appear publicly right away โ we read everything first, privately. Write your story directly in the comment, or just say “I have a story” and how to reach you, and we will get in touch. If you want your comment kept entirely unpublished, say so in the first line and it will be.
Somewhere out there is a parent googling at 2 a.m., or a kid who thinks they are the only one. Your story might be the one that finds them โ the way, if you are honest, someone else’s story once found you.
Stories published here reflect their authors’ personal experiences and are not medical advice. If you or your child are struggling, a qualified health professional is the right first stop.
